Forming Words

‘E’ is my letter for the ‘Forming Words’ 4 day exhibition at the Manchester Craft and Design Centre which opens today until this Sunday as part of the Manchester Weekender. To illustrate my letter I drew an Echidna, shaping his body into a ‘E’. What a wonderful creature from Australia with its many long spines and pink sticky tongue!
The image is available to buy as a digital print. Get in touch if you are interested!

Let’s Play Sardines!

I have recently customised a La Sardina DIY Lomography camera which will be exhibited at the Lomography Gallery Store East London on Thursday 17th January.

My camera will be exhibited alongside Kid Acne, Felt Misstress, Malarky, Pete Fowler, Supermundane, Gemma Correll,  Donna Wilson and Chris Howker to name a few ace creatives!

My approach to the camera for resourceful and as per usual a bit daft, I saw the La Sardina camera as a bird.. that big flash had to be a head right…?
Using the little wooden bits you get when you buy pre made canvasses (due to my hording nature I had a tin box full) as my feathers I figured out the best way to present them onto the camera, then painted and glued them on.

I then didn’t like what i did and started again, so the photos to see here are the initial attempt and the finish product looks something similar, if not better. The back is painted all over and I also customised the coloured flash parts for different head pieces.

There will be free beers provided by Saint Beer So let them know how much you enjoy their brew at @EnjoySaint

Keep up to date with the exhibitions deets with #letsplaysardines

And HERE BEEEE the link on the lomography website.

Thanks to Lomography for asking me to do this, it was so much fun and a nice start to 2013!

All in the Wrist – Hooty

I spent 4 days working with cardboard inside the Bench Self Made gallery. I wanted to play around with the space and have fun with a material i don’t use that often and so i created some trees and a remote control cardboard owl complete with screen printed feathers.

The work was displayed alongside cardboard queen Lottie Smith, Krek, Moot, TeaOne and Muka. Everybody’s work was completely different to the others, making it an interesting show and showcasing the usability of cardboard. I think I enjoyed the making part with other people around the best bit.. free booze is free booze.

Thanks to Moot for organising the exhibition and Alistar from Bench for letting us get into the space and being generally awesome.

Common Ground Collective.

Common Ground Collective undertook a 2 week residency at Rogue’s Project Space The other artists in the collective are Elizabeth Wewiora Simon Jones Jay Yung Tracey Eastham and Claire Tindale.

I wanted to cultivate something in the space and having been playing around with the idea of a ‘Cressage’ for a while. It is how it sounds.. a message written in cress! Whilst discussing with Wewiora my idea she said the simple comment of “it has potentional” And that was it! Cress doesn’t take that long to cultivate and essentially has potentional for growth within the restricted time and space. It started to sprout almost immediately from its pulped paper base and flourished on the Monday, to dry up and die on the following Monday.
More cressages to follow.
Utilising the materials that were in the space I also created a ‘rolling hill’ for which Claire’s mini wooden shed could perch on.

Thanks to Elizabeth Wewiora for the photographs.
